Applicability of Juche and Songun in the United States

--- John Paul Cupp, Public Relations Director of the North American Committee Against Zionism and Imperialism (NACAZAI)

Universiality of Revolutionary Struggle According to United States Conditions

For some time now I have become aware of the need to define the applicability of Juche and Songun to conditions within the USA. As the working people and our nations in the United States face loss of national character, I believe the time for stalling on such a task has come and gone.

The forerunners of the previous Marxist-Leninist ideology of the working class, Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin, all recognized the universality of revolutionary violence in the working class seizing state power. All genuinely socialist revolutions historically presuppose armed struggle, and the same is true of most national democratic struggles for self-determination. In my talks with Korean experts on the Juche idea and Songun, they noted this fact and further pointed out that even a worm wiggles around to avoid dying.  The Songun idea goes even further and recognizes that the revolutionary army of the people is the pillar itself for building socialism in today’s era when contradictions with imperialism are fierce and the primary mode in anti-imperialist class struggle and national liberation is the gun.

Some people have questioned the plausibility of applying the Songun revolutionary line creatively to the conditions of the United States and other imperialist countries since the army in such places is imperialistic and opposes the basic principle of chajusong or national independence of peoples. This ultimately is a social democratic failing for the application of Songun in the United States, center of world imperialism and the national nihilist Zionist bankers’ prison house of nations, is not reliance on the imperialist army at all, but a further enriched application of the call for the popular classes to defend their true national and class interests through revolutionary struggle centering on the gun. Theoretically, if such advanced conditions emerged armed struggle would become inevitable.  Should such forces successfully seize state power, which is purely theoretical today, inevitably they would be forced to rely on the revolutionary army and work to promote genuinely patriotic and working class consciousness of the armed masses to protect their revolutionary gains and defend their nation when the Zionists, the leading quarters of US imperialism and global finance capital today, tried to re-enslave them. Consider the case of US imperialist hostilities against Cuba. Now then imagine if the Puerto Rican working class theoretically seized state power and began building a genuinely patriotic and socialist state in what was once informally referred to as the “51st state of the United States.” Such a state had better implement socialism, the only way to eliminate class contradictions and develop the revolutionary army and their scientific capacity for self-reliance in defense and the productive forces, because the actual imperialist threat of aggression and military occupation would be even greater than what Cuba has seen.

Understanding Historical and Material Conditions in the United States

In understanding the conditions of the United States today it is important to clarify that the United States is not genuinely a nation, nor is it some regular country that simply needs socialism and anti-imperialist struggle. Rather, as I have just stated, it is a bankers’ prison house of nations. Zionist Pax Americana ultimately constitutes the great black hole which destroys the national character and class solidarity of peoples in favor of the global cosmopolitan shopping mall of consumer fetishism, libertarian individualism and economism. Money is the “ethnic character” of the United States. The true collective concept of neighborhood is dying rapidly today.  “Patriotic” attachment to the United States imperialist project is simply ignorance and money-worship which causes peoples to betray their true interests and solidarity with each other and the world.

Starving and resistant Irishmen, who constitute one part of my ancestors and ethnic soul, ultimately were to flee the great and prehistoric glories of their homeland for an assimilatory project that has brought greater death and destruction than anything the modern world has ever seen. Germans, whose right to national unification was subverted, constitute an even greater part. Ultimately, both peoples were to negate the ethnic character of the Red Indian peoples for the benefit of powers that ultimately massacred their own homelands and subverted the national self-determination of the entire world. Africans were brought along in slave ships following deals between Jewish and Portuguese grand bourgeoisie slavers and certain feudal comprador African leaders to be used as slaves by White and even Cherokee plantation owners who were foolish and treasonous enough to do so. This not only devastated the ethnic character of African-descended slaves, but it decimated the wages and ethnic character of average White workers, and later brought about African-American “Buffalo Soldiers” to be used by the United States to mass murder Red Indian peoples west of the Mississippi River. To a lesser degree, even hundreds of thousands of White people were literally forcefully enslaved by the British Empire and brought to North America, as with Australia and other places.

Following the United States civil war, in which race slavery was finally defeated, ordinary White Southerners were mass murdered and disparaged by US General Sherman who later went on to commit similar crimes against indigenous Red Indians. Peoples who all were trained to hate and kill each other, were actually all victims of what was to become the most destructive imperialist power the world has ever known.

Unfortunately, as the chajusong of each people found greater disarray, such peoples become greater enemies of one another. The imperialist enemy promoted White Supremacy, i.e. the chauvinistic racial or ethnic stratification of peoples, in the previous historical eras to convince average European-American workers and farmers that they had stake in promoting the American imperialist destruction of peoples at home and abroad. This, coupled with ideas stuck in their heads by cosmopolitan liberals and Zionists, rightfully caused many oppressed peoples to hate and fear all European-Americans, even working class revolutionaries. This did play a revolutionary role to some degree, particularly for African-Americans because White “radicals” often objectively subverted their struggle for self-determination and social emancipation, particularly from groups and individuals falsely claiming to be “Communists” or anti-capitalist.

It is interesting to note that Dr. Huey P. Newton, the late Supreme Commander and co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, whatever his flaws which are beyond the scope of this article, ultimately took a very similar approach according to very different conditions to the one I am proposing with regards to the national question upon discovering the Juche idea and Marxism-Leninism. We call for each people to reclaim their national chajusong and use it to struggle for socialism and anti-imperialism, not from the spirit of dogmatic chauvinism but from a patriotic working class spirit that promotes the solidarity of all our peoples in the United States and all the people around the world against the enemy.

Leader Kim Jong Il, Champion of the Revolution Today

Having been to north Korea, socialist fortress of Juche and Songun, I can attest to the superiority of their political system to any system ever to have been built in modern history or to any of the political systems and ideologies being used to confront imperialism today. It is not an accident, act of foolishness or sign of flunkyism that I have devoted so many years of my life towards defending the Korean revolution and disseminating its lessons to the people of the United States and the world.

No one has defeated “globalization”, i.e. a simple euphemism for imperialism in the post-Soviet world today, like the dear leader Comrade Kim Jong Il. Following the path of the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung and the example of the anti-Japanese guerrilla fighters, the dear leader has ensured the survival of the Korean revolution by placing the gun before the hammer, sickle and brush. While defending the revolutionary Marxist-Leninist forerunners of the revolution, he also made sure to establish Korea’s Juche idea as monolithic in keeping with his pattern of systematizing, enriching, and developing the ideas of the great leader.

Juche idea placed a new foundation philosophically with regards to the role of humanity in the revolution. It understood the primacy of ideological consciousness over material factors. Furthermore, it corrected certain idealistic guesses the previous Marxist-Leninist theory had regarding the supposed eventuality of a world without nations or state regimes. Rather, Juche placed emphasis on preserving the Juche character and national character of the revolution and recognized that each people make the revolution as a national unit. These constituted desperately needed contributions to socialist theory at a time Marxist-Leninist forces were in disarray and many dogmatic leftists were actually aiding imperialist objectively by refusing to promote the defense of national character or by assuming defense of the national character de facto constitutes chauvinism.

Now we watch as the DPRK travels quickly on the road to becoming a regional power. It has already developed socialism, survived the “Arduous March” which followed the fall of the Soviet bloc, built a powerful army of Songun equipped with numerous soldiers and nuclear weapons and developed a self-reliant socialist economy which preserves and enriches Korean national culture in a dynamic and forward-looking way.  Now the popular classes of north Korea are the masters of their own destiny, in contrast to their brothers in the south who are under US imperialist occupation and ruled by an archaic comprador regime.

May Those Who Desire Unity and Independence Unite!

It is completely natural that revolutionaries in the United States love, cherish, respect and admire the great leader Comrade KIM IL SUNG and the dear leader Comrade KIM JONG IL.  We should continue to do so, and to give solidarity with north Korea’s socialism and the south Korean people’s anti-US and anti-war struggle for national reunification and social liberation. We also have an obligation to our people here and to the world to be good patriots and build our revolutionary struggle in the center of world imperialism against the US imperialist regime, including creatively using many lessons from Juche and Songun to our own traditions. Each of us should reclaim the ethnic character of our unique people and their revolutionary traditions.

We need to struggle hard against foolish illusions and social roles our people have from being within the center of imperialism and constantly brainwashed by the Zionist imperialist media, but we also need to demonstrate that Communists and revolutionaries ultimately love the people more than anyone. We need to work for national self-determination, and we also need to get together along class lines against a common enemy while repudiating previous anti-Communist notions on the national question that were chauvinistic on the right and cosmopolitan on the “left.”

The US imperialists destroyed our ability for self-reliant economies in the name of greater super-profits. In their quest to make extra profits they simply attacked the foundations of our working class and found points in the “Third World” where labor is cheaper. Finance capital dominated productive capital, and now our people face destruction of our nationality and impoverishment. Cold War labor bribes are consistently becoming obsolete. Our people are losing living-wage paying jobs, houses and automobiles daily. Our families and communities are being destroyed by narcotic drugs, individualism and a regime that has turned on us despite our decades and even centuries of idiotic attachment and loyalty to it. Likely, should our peoples here find common ground and struggle together, the regime would simply open fire on us. That certainly is the pattern of state repression historically shown.

We need each other, our guns for self-defense and our class solidarity. We also need a creative application of Juche and Songun to United States conditions. We need revolution according to our own conditions.
